Abstract

This study aims to map trends, key actors, and thematic directions in the study of multicultural Islamic education and religious tolerance using a quantitative bibliometric approach. A total of 406 Scopus-indexed articles from 1992 to 2025 were extracted and analyzed by VOSviewer and Scopus analysis functions. As commonly known, the publications from 2015 had a significantly increase and the study indicated that Indonesia and Malaysia were dominated, they mostly chosen Southeast Asian authors to do global cooperation. The main preference themes among researchers were inclusive education, religious moderation, multicultural curriculum, and social cohesion. While the novelty index of over 100 publications and citation existence at an average value of 9.58 per document largely affirm a significant academic impact, some challenges include gender representation, technology inclusion, and international cooperation. Keyword analysis also points out a natural trend from normative solutions to context-aware ones considering specific application requirements such as cultural identity, human rights, and ethical integrity. Our results also confirm the positive contribution of a multicultural Islamic education to the outputs of SDGs, including the elaboration and development of inclusive policies on education and training, as well as sustainable ones.
